ABOUT US

Our farm in Aurora, WV was purchased by our family in 2011. At that time, our oldest son (Matthew) was 2 years old and we were 6 months pregnant with Nate. When we began, we owned one piece of equipment. It was a brush hog that wasn't even in very good shape. Our farm was overgrown with various bushes and the hay fields grew more daisies than it did grass for cattle to eat. It continues to be a work in progress. It is hard work, but we love it.

We purchased our first cow in 2006. Her calves are still in our herd today as mamas. Initially, our beef farm was a cow-calf operation. We would have calves in the spring and sell them in the fall at around 600-700 pounds. Later, we began finishing those calves as 1300 pound mature animals ready to be processed.

Our 2 boys are growing up on our farm enjoying the opportunities to learn and grow as farm kids. They take a very active role in the daily operations. Matthew loves the animals and is a wonderful caretaker. Nate loves equipment and is an expert in cattle genetics. He can tell you the weaning weight and birthweight on almost any bull in the Select Sires bull directory. They both show cattle and are in the 4H program.

We recognized early on that great cattle genetics and a good feeding program overall impacted the taste of our beef. We began breeding our cattle for specific traits including marbling and rib-eye area. We loved the taste of our beef and we wanted others to be able to enjoy it also. So, Promised Land Meats began in 2020. It was a way for us to offer a finished product to all of you. Thank you for taking time to read part of our farm story.
